I always loved to watch "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego" when I was a kid, and I have a demonstrator friend who always takes her candles with her on trips, so I am going to be taking my candles with me and sharing our adventures with you! Theme Parties are a HUGE hit for summer!

Let's get together and have a THEME PARTY with Gold Canyon! Theme parties are a great time for you and your guests, and require very little work!

Let's have a "Beach Party" - Have your guests bring their beach towels and use those as their seat for the party - We will have beach theme candles and fun Beach style games to play!

So I was thinking today - I can fill my home with the fragrance of fresh cut flowers, of any type or variety, and not have to worry about the weeds! I can fill my home with the fragrances of rose, gardenia, sweet pea, lilac, casablance lily, and more with Gold Canyon and I don't have to pull a single weed.

I have three children, age 9,7 and 5 and they are simply the most loving children I know (of course they are my little jewels). But all joking aside... I have taught my children that it is very important to love and be friends with childern with disabilities. I explain to them that these children are just like them, except they cannot sometimes do all the things that they can do. I have had many interesting conversations with my oldest about the "cool kids" at her school. That is what they call our special needs children in our elementary school. The older students (one of them being my daughter) can go to their room and help with the kids. Playing games with them, reading to them and just being their friend. At the end of last year, my daughter was given a certificate from their room that said thanks for coming to our room and helping us. It was great. When my children see these kids out and about with their parents, they are always running up to them to say hello and ask them how they are doing. Some of the kids cannot talk, or feed themselves, and have severe disabilities, but my children always tell me that those kids are their friends and they show love toward them, and tell other kids that it is not nice to make fun of those children, because the only difference is that they cannot do all of the same things as we can.

One program that my children have be very supportive of is our Prayer Child program with Gold Canyon. Since the beginning of this school year, the Prayer child Foundation has given $5000 to children in my community, through the sales of our candles for kids program. (You can read more about that in one of my other posts on this blog dated Sunday, January 25, 2009.) These children are children that my oldest daughter helped in the cool kids classroom. The money was given to help offset medical bills, and therapy expenses or general needs for the children. My children let everyone know about the Prayer Child foundation and help me with fundraisers with the program as well...

I think that when children are allowed to interact with special needs children, they get a better understanding of what it is like to live with a disability, and they realize that it is OK for them to be different.

My younger two children are always asking questions about people they see in the mall, or at the store, and my oldest is very quick to try to give them an answer that they can understand, and I love that! What better way for them to learn than from an older sibling who has worked in the classroom with these kids.

I am a school teacher and I, of course, am involved with these kids on a dialy basis - either involving them with my kids, or having them help with laundry and sih washing... The kids love that they can be included with the rest of the children and I feel this is the best way to overcome differences - Include them with the other children.

Recycling items from your Gold Canyon stash

Re-use that jar.... Don't just throw your candle jars in the trash, re-use them in creative ways.

here are a few ideas.

First - Clean your jar. If your candle has just burned it's last glimmer and is still liquid, dump it out. If the wax is solidified, warm the candle in an over of about 250 degrees and use hot pads to remove it once the wax has liquified to dump it out.

Next wipe all the excess wax that you can out with a paper towel. Then use HOMEOLOGY glass cleaner to clean the glass jar, run through the dishwasher to get any residue left behind out.

Now that the jar is clean, use it in all kinds of ways. Here are a few that I have done with both jars and pod containers:

1. fill with candy for on your desk at work

2. Fill with coffee beans and place a tealight inside (I have this on my desk as a constant reminder that I will not be teaching shcool forever, but will be working my Gold canyon business)

3. Store extra buttons - my friends antique buttons look awesome in her bella jars in her sewing room

4. nuts/bolts/screws can be stored in smaller jars, or store them in the pod warmer plastic containers that have been cleaned out as well. They stack so that they will not fall over, but will keep things organized.

5. Use your old jar as a flower vase. Decoupage the outside of the jar and put those flowers your kids bring into you in them - The kids love making them as well.

6. The baking line jars make great canisters for flour, sugar etc... They can be stored right on your counter and witha screw top lid, they keep the moisture out.

7. Polly pocket pieces... my daughters have tons of polly pieces, and they make me crazy when they are all over the floor - They store their Polly Pocket shoes in the pod warmer containers, they can see what is in them and can label the tops as well.

8. Store Paper clips, thumb tacks and other office supplies in the pod containers. You can tie a ribbon around them and hang them from your cork board at your cubicle. Very Cute!

9. Pods also make great holders for those spare buttons that you get when you buy clothing.

10. Use the new caffe velluto containers for cofee beans, biscotti, and more! They are super cute!

Prayer Child Helps Local Families

One of the greatest parts of my job is helping families in need. The Prayer Child program was started in 2000 to help children with physical disabilities and medical needs. The sales of the "Candles for Kids" provide the money that is needed for these children.

In August of 2008 I went to a fellow teacher in my school building who is responsible for all of the severe handicapped children. I asked her to fill out applications for her students so that we could possibly get some money for those kids. Many of them live at poverty level and have needs beyond what their parents can meet financially.

In November, just a week before Thanksgiving, Jill came to me with three envelopes in her hand. All of the envelopes contained a check for $1000 a piece, made out to three students in our school. I was ecstatic! I cried for days. We called the families and had them come in to the school, telling them that they had paper work that needed to be signed (how sneaky). When they got there, they were pleasantly surprised to see that they were being given $1000.

As the parents were getting ready to leave, they said that they knew what they were going to do with the money already. One planned on putting it in a savings account for her daughter for later use, the other was going to purchase a theraputic bike for her daughter and the last mother said that she now had enough money to get her daughter the bed that she had been saving for stating "This is going to be a great Christmas for our daughter"

I was so excited! My candles had made the difference in the lives of THREE children in my own school, my own community, and that felt WONDERFUL!

The New Summer Gold Canyon Catalog has been seen!

Well, it is official, the new summer catalog is posted for all Gold Canyon demonstrators to see. And let me tell you - It is out of this world. I have been looking it over and over again and making my list of things that I want to purchase for myself. I am extremely excited to see the summer scents from last year in the heritage line of candles so that I can have them in the 26 ounce size.

Let me just tell you about some of the great new things that will be available to you once you can order in May. There are some really awesome new candle holders for the fourth or July holiday. A ribbon holder with stars, which is going to be adorning my front porch all summer long. There are also some awesome themed baskets with candles and accessories that cover everything from new babies to anniversaries and weddings, to those who love the outdoors or those who are celebrating a birthday. If you log into my website at www.wix-n-stix.com you can see the summer catalog on-line as well. which will show you all the great items that I am talking about.

There are also some great sherbert dishes that are filled with the most wonderful scents, and once the dishes are empty, you can wash them and use them for food. All of our products are lead free and are dishwasher safe so that they can be re-used and not filling up a landfill. That is something that is so wonderful about this company - We always have a way to re-use our containers so that we re not filling up the landfills.

Get Ready for summer!

This is a blog for my candle customers to get decorating ideas for their homes. I hope that all of you find this information useful and I look forward to seeing many of you at a show soon!

With Spring Break around the corner, and summer soon approaching, I look at all the ways that I can decorate my home to reflect that summer feeling. I love the scent of the beach, and the sound of the ocean waves.

Gold Canyon makes it easy for you to decorate your home to reflect that summer time feel - and on May 1st our new summer scents will be available once again so that you can bring those outdoor aromas inside. Gold Canyon has a wide variety of summer accessories. You can start by purchasing a flared Hurricane holder, and fill it with seashells that you have collected at the beach, then place one of our wonderful pillar candles in your choice or fragrance and color in it to complete the summer look. There is a great sample of this in the Spring catalog, found on page 68. A little sand and shells with a candle makes a great statement about yourself.

Don't forget to add a Starfish tealight holder to your collection as well. These starfish are 6 1/4 inches in diameter and look wonderful on your patio table or mantle in the summer. And you can also think about the iridescent seashell tealight holder. This open shell holds your favorite tealight and is a great addition to your powder room counter or shelf.

Another great use for the Gold Canyon flared Hurricane is for a fish bowl. Some of you may have received my Gold Canyon Newsletter that showcased the goldfish in the flared hurricane. Much like a beta fish with a peace lilly, the flared hurricane with a gold fish is a great addition as a center piece for the table or credenza. When I saw that hurricane being used for a fish bowl, I immediately placed an order to Gold Canyon so that I could have it for my daughter. She has been bugging me for a fish, so I figured this would be a great way to showcase my products and the flexibility of their use. Who would have thought about putting a fish in a flared hurricane? Gold Canyon did, and I loved it!

And lastly - Remember that the Gold Canyon catalogs that you receive from hosting a show are a great way to get decorating ideas. I will update this blog often to tell you some of the things that I am doing with product that you may not have thought of!
